Ink & Innovation #1: The Roland TY-300i DTF Printer

DTF (Direct to Film) printing for t-shirts and beyond is growing in popularity. This printing method DTF offers a quick and easy way to create transfers for garment decoration, allowing print service providers to expand their product offering.

DTF involves printing a design onto film, applying adhesive powder and then heating the film to create the finished transfer. This transfer can now be used on a wide range of materials including cotton, polyester, leather and many more. This flexibility has made DTF printing incredibly popular for businesses producing:

  • Custom apparel

  • Merchandise and promotional clothing

  • On-demand fashion items

  • Small-batch personalised products

As part of our Ink & Innovation Series, we’re shining a spotlight on the Roland TY-300i DTF printer and the features that make it a great choice for any print business looking to get into the garment customisation market or upgrade their existing set up.

The Basics...

The Roland TY-300i DTF printer features a max print width of 736mm and is powered by Versaworks 7, Roland’s RIP software. Building upon the original TY-300 model, the TY-300i is built for production with CMYK with 4 white ink cartridges as standard for longer, uninterrupted printing.

Due to the water based nature of the inks, the TY-300i can also be used to print posters and stickers when using a suitable media as well as a cutter for HTV and sign vinyls.

Why choose the Roland TY-300i for your business?

Roland printers are incredibly easy to use and the TY-300i is no exception. The printer itself has a touchscreen display that provides access to media menus, maintenance items as well printing progress and machine information. This screen also acts as a point of reference with step by step guides for easy maintenance and troubleshooting. Roland have worked to ensure that their printers are intuitive and easy to use in order to increase efficiency and minimise operator intervention.

Roland’s Versaworks software has an easy to navigate interface that allows the user to ready their file in only a few steps, making printing a straightforward process for even those new to the industry.

The TY-300i is engineered for high-volume environments, delivering faster output speeds, consistent colour, and the reliability needed for demanding production schedules.

The Roland TY-300i offers high quality prints that are both soft and durable. When washed 50 times in testing, the TY-300i transfer showed little change in colour and quality. Reliable white adhesion helps maintain the printed finish with no cracking or deterioration. The TY-300i can also handle fine detail and small fonts with ease. The bold and vibrant colours produced by the TY-300i are impressive along with a printing speed of up to 10.9 m²/h in standard mode and 17.48 m²/h in high-speed mode.
