Roland TrueVIS VG4 Series: Frequently Asked Questions

Interested in the new Roland TrueVIS VG4 Series? Lauren Ryder, YPS Sales Director answers our most frequently asked questions about this flagship printer cutter series from Roland.

Can you give an overview of the Roland VG4 Series?

The Roland VG4 Series is available in two print widths, the 54 inch VG4-540 and 64 inch VG4-640. The VG4 series is an eco-solvent print and cut machine, created for a range of print applications including decals and stickers, wallpaper, vehicle graphics, exhibition and pos, signage and so much more. It's a very versatile machine!

Does the Roland VG4 replace the VG3?

The Roland VG4 is the next generation in the TrueVIS VG series, building upon the incredibly successful VG3 model with new productivity, workflow and ink enhancements. The TrueVIS VG3 has now been discontinued following the launch of the VG4.

What are the biggest differences between the Roland VG3 and VG4?

The VG4 has a new high definition print head, this is the same printhead that is in the Roland XG-640 printer, which is Roland's flagship high production printer model. Alongside the new printhead is new TR3 inks, with new Red and Light Black options, increasing the available colour gamut further.

New to the VG4 is that direct printing from the printer's touchscreen is now also possible. Print jobs that have been ripped previously in VersaWorks 7 can be printed from the VG4 itself. This is great if the printer is not close to the PC.

The Roland VG4 Series offers lower ink consumption compared to previous generations thanks to improved ink efficiency plus increased print speeds. Maintenance is also more straightforward, with key areas around the print head easier to access and replace when needed, helping to minimise downtime. The VG4 is designed to deliver high quality prints while keeping day to day production running smoothly and efficiently.

What are Roland TR3 inks?

With the new VG4 comes new TR3 inks. These use RolandDG's latest eco-solvent ink technology, offering improved colour reproduction, greater efficiency and a wider colour gamut for premium-quality print applications. TR3 inks are GBL free and GreenGuard Gold certified. TR3 inks are available in several configurations to suit the intended print business. Alongside CMYK, there is new red ink plus orange and green options. White ink is also available for those who offer window graphics as part of their business as well light ink options including light magenta, light cyan and light black. The addition of these not only opens up the available colour gamut but also also allows for smoother gradients and richer colours. The quality and colour of the prints from the VG4 Series is very impressive. TR3 inks are supplied in eco-friendly cardboard based cartridges.

Is the Roland VG4 available in Dual CMYK?

It certainly is! Businesses focused on production speed can still configure the VG4 with dual CMYK This makes it ideal for high-volume print production.
