Roland Safe Shutdown for the Christmas Break

Roland Safe Shutdown Instructions

Before rushing off to enjoy your Christmas break, it is important to prepare your Roland machine for the downtime so when you return you can get up and running with no fuss. Roland DG have put together a handy video detailing the maintenance process for keeping your Roland tip top and prepared the break ahead.

Follow these Roland Safe shutdown instructions to keep your Roland Machine happy during the Christmas break

  • Perform a normal clean and check test draw. Repeat this step if required to achieve a full nozzle test draw.
  • Perform daily maintenance as usual, replacing wiper if necessary. Wiper blades should be clean to allow them to clean the print heads effectively.Make sure ink cartridges have sufficient ink in order to be able circulate through the machine. Cleaning cartridges should also be checked.
  • Machine should be kept plugged in with the power switch turned on at the back. It should be kept in standby mode to allow the printer to perform automatic maintenance whilst not being used.
  • Check and empty drain bottle.
  • Remove media from the printer to prevent any pressure marks being left on the roll from the pinch rollers.
  • If using white in your Roland, the cartridge should be shaken before leaving for your break. Whilst the printer is turned on, remove the cartridge and tip back and forth several times and put back in. You can then leave the machine switched off on the front panel with the main power switch left on.

Upon your return, the white or metallic cartridges should be gently shaken. Perform a nozzle text print and clean if necessary.

Devil is in the Detail with Roland TrueVIS VG

Micheal Hawes spent 18 years in the education sector but this summer turned the tables to receive training himself, in digital printing and vehicle wrapping. The result is Devil is in the Detail, a brand-new vehicle wrap and signage business running a Roland DG TrueVIS VG-640 printer/cutter.

“I have friends in the car industry and was looking for a career change,” explains Micheal Hawes. “Around 18 months ago I started researching offering dent repairs and cosmetic vehicle work. This developed into Devil is in the Detail, a vehicle graphics business – a very different challenge to education.”

YPS customer Devil is in the Detail start up print with Roland TrueVIS

Perhaps as a result of his former career, Micheal made sure he spent time studying the market and the right technology for this kind of work before launching his business in Selby, Yorkshire. Online research, trade shows and suppliers’ open days led him to Roland distributor Your Print Specialists (YPS) and the Roland TrueVIS VG-640. This combination inkjet printer/cutter offers a wide colour gamut, fast printing and drying, accurate cutting and remote operation – ideal for graphics businesses of any size.

Devil is in the Detail moved into its own unit in mid-June, while Micheal was still wrapping up his educational provision work and is now running the TrueVIS full-time on an unexpected range of applications.

“Initially my use for the machine was going to be vehicle graphics and digital wraps, but as word of mouth has spread with the machine’s capabilities I am already getting requests for banners and signage too,” says Micheal. “I thought, ‘I may as well make the most of the machine’.”

Devil is in the Detail Roland TrueVIS purchased from Your Print Specialists

The TrueVIS can handle these applications and more: die-cut labels and decals, posters and backlit displays, wall graphics and murals, fine art and photography, and heat transfers for apparel are all easy to achieve on this integrated print-and-cut system.

Micheal adds: “I don’t originally come from a print background and I find the TrueVIS straightforward to use. I like the integrated print and cut, the take-up unit is brilliant and it really is a multi-purpose machine.”

Undertaking training to maximise his investment in the TrueVIS – despite its integral ease of use – was essential to Micheal, who is as detail-focused as his business’s name suggests.

“I attended Roland’s intermediate print course at Coventry University, which filled gaps in my knowledge such as colour management. I also went on the Introduction to Digital Print course at the Roland Creative Centre in Clevedon – the space really opens up your eyes as to the endless opportunities offered by Roland digital print.”

Already busy just weeks into his new career, Micheal Hawes simply wants to establish Devil is in the Detail in Selby. “I want to make a name for myself by committing to doing a great job,” he says. “Training with the Roland Academy is helping me on my way.”

    Creating Wallpaper with Roland

We’ve recently updated our demonstration room at YPS to create an inspiring area for visitors, customers and the staff. We used our Roland TrueVIS VG-540 with Versaworks Dual to create wallpaper for our Roland demo area.

Roland TrueVIS VG-540 at Your Print Specialists

Wall decoration is an exciting, rapidly growing area of design. A feature wall mural or a bespoke wall design can transform a room for both business and home. There is a market for creating unique and personalised products with wall decoration being no exception.

Wallpaper vinyls and papers are available in a whole range of textures and finishes meaning you can really create a stunning and unique design. Roland printers can also be configured with white and metallic inks (depending on printer series.) for even further print options.

“Large-format digital printing is a great way to expand your range of consulting services and offer truly personalised solutions that will wow your clients.”

Bespoke or personalised samples can be produced quickly for easy proofing with clients. The ability to print samples on the same machine that will produce the approved job means clients expectations can be confidently met.

    Roland TrueVIS VG-540 Wallpaper printer

We created our artwork as a PDF in Adobe Illustrator to the size of the full wall and then opened the file in Versaworks. Versaworks Dual, Roland’s RIP software, has some clever features to help you prepare your file for printing. The tiling option allows you to set the size as well as the amount of panels that you require for your wall. The ability to add a bleed to each panel is a major benefit and makes applying the wallpaper a little easier as it acts as a guide. The preview window allows you to see how design is split into panels before sending the file to print. Should the need arise to reprint a panel, this can be done very easily without printing the full wall.

Roland Versaworks Dual Tiling Wallpaper at YPS

Our Roland wall was printed on a variety of textured Decal brand wall vinyls. Finishes include canvas, woodgrain, leather and stone. Designs used for our wall range from the traditional bird and rococoo styles to the scandi and geometric. The TrueVIS ink used in the VG-540 offers a wide colour gamut and allows our designs to be bold and vibrant. Roland TrueVIS ink is also Greenguard Gold certified making it ideal for classrooms and nurseries.

The Roland TrueVIS VG-540 is available for demonstration at Your Print Specialists. Call the team on 0191 256 6889 for more info and to arrange a visit to our lovely demo room!

    YPS at Sign&DigitalUK 2018 Review

    Let’s all go to Sign&DigitalUK…

Your Print Specialists at Sign&DigitalUK 2018

The last week in April saw the printing industry descend on the NEC Birmingham for Sign&DigitalUK 2018, the industry’s premier show focusing on print, sign and display.

This was YPS’ fifth year exhibiting and was our most exciting stand yet. Previously just a Mimaki specialist, we have expanded our hardware and finishing equipment offering to include HP Latex, Roland DG and Flexa. We couldn’t wait to show visitors what applications are possible using machines from these brands.

    HP Latex a go-go!

The YPS team were very excited to showcase the HP Latex 560 printer. Using water based latex ink, printing directly to fabrics is possible and can be printed on the same machine as traditional sign and display medias. If you visited our stand you will have seen our interior set up including lampshades, fabrics, canvas frames, blinds and cushions. Our personalised chair got lots of attention too and again was printed using our HP Latex 560. Visitors to the stand were invited to see the HP Latex printing direct to fabric and take away sample prints.

HP Latex Partner YPS showcase HP Latex 560 at SignUK

    Keep Roland, Roland, Roland…

Also making it’s debut on the YPS stand at Sign&DigitalUK was Roland DG. Showcasing ‘The Future of Print and Cut’ with the Roland TrueVIS VG-540, an eco-solvent integrated print and cut machine. We produced window decals using the white ink installed as well as colour popping poster prints showcasing the wide colour gamut of the Roland TrueVIS inks.

The Mimaki UCJV300-160 LED UV roll to roll is a gamechanger. With the ability to produce 4 layer prints for amazing backlits and 5 layer for window coverings alongside traditional print items. Prints are instantly cured, even when printing at high speeds and with the new LUS-170 inks, vibrant colour is still guaranteed. For those looking to switch over from screen to digital the Mimaki UCJV300 series makes the printing of switch membranes easy with the addition of white ink.

    Mimaki UCJV300-160 at SignUK

Another brand making it’s Sign&DigitalUK debut on the YPS stand was Flexa SRL, an Italian finishing equipment supplier and one of the latest brands added to the YPS roster. The Flexa Miura II Plus XY cutter is an impressive piece of equipment for trimming and sheeting both blank and printed media. Using registration marks and an optical eye, the Miura can cut a 50m roll both vertically and horizontally in a matter of minutes. The trimmed pop art style poster prints proved being sheet cut proved very popular with show visitors.

Team YPS had a great time at Sign&DigitalUK 2018. Thanks to all who popped on the stand to see us and made it a great week!

If anything has caught your eye, please give the sales team a call on 0191 256 6889 for more information on the machines available at YPS.

Your Print Specialists returns to Sign & Digital UK with exciting new partnerships

Your Print Specialists (YPS) return to Sign & Digital UK with a new addition to it’s portfolio of brands. YPS were appointed an HP Latex Partner in February 2018 with a focus on sales of HP Latex printers in the North of England and Scotland.

YPS are inviting visitors to Sign & Digital UK to ‘expand your potential with HP Latex’ and will showcase the HP Latex 560 and the vast range of products, from home décor to sign and graphic, that can be produced on this versatile machine. “Textile printing and home décor is a huge growth area and the versatility of HP Latex allows for printing on a range of textile media as well as traditional sign and graphic media. We’re excited to be able to offer the range of HP Latex printers to visitors of Sign & Digital UK” says Georgia Brown, Sales Director at YPS.

HP Latex 560 Printer at YPS

As well as HP Latex, YPS will also be bringing flagship equipment from Mimaki and Roland DG. Expanding on last years Think It, Print It, Profit theme, YPS will provide inspiration with demonstrations of the machines and application samples.

There will be a focus on sign and graphic with an eco-solvent Roland TrueVIS being centre stage. Appointed an official Roland Dealer in September 2017, the 2018 Sign & Digital UK show will be YPS’s first show with Roland being demonstrated on the stand.

Roland TrueVIS VG-540 at Your Print Specialists

A Mimaki specialist for many years, the YPS stand would not be complete without the latest innovative offering in the form of the new Mimaki UCJV300-160, a UV LED wide format printer capable of 4 and 5 layer printing. Visitors can explore the capabilities for Industrial Print with the UCJV’s ability to print to a range of sensitive and unusual materials thanks to it’s UV-LED curing technology.

Mimaki UCJV trade in offer launch

“Sign & Digital UK is always an exciting show for YPS. We have a loyal customer base and by adding new brands in the form of Roland and HP Latex to our portfolio, we strengthen our position as a leading digital wide format partner” continues Brown.

Visitors are invited to visit stand E2 to consult with YPS specialists about the specific applications they wish to develop and discover how they can do so with a set up that works with their existing production workflow. The North East based reseller will showcase it’s reputation for expert training and customer service, offering service and know how to support potential customers with bringing their projects and ideas to life.

Update 23/03/2018: YPS are also excited to announce that they will also be demonstrating the Flexa Miura Plus II Automatic XY cutter.

Roland TrueVIS VG Series at YPS

Your Print Specialists were appointed official Roland dealer for the North East and Scotland last year with a focus on Sign and Graphics solutions. We installed the flagship Roland TrueVIS VG-640 as our demonstration model at our head office. This printer with integrated contour cutter features four print heads for maximum quality and efficiency. Let’s take a look at what other features makes this machine stand out from the other wide format solvent printers on the market.

Roland TrueVIS VG Series at YPS

    First impressions…

The Roland TrueVIS VG-640 is a substantial machine but is incredibly streamline. The ink cartridges and control panel are hidden away to create a clean, industrial look. The print area and maintenance area of the machine is illuminated with LED lighting. This is a nice feature which will make you wonder how you ever printed without it!

    Roland trueVIS VG Series features

    Roland TrueVIS VG series Overview

The VG Series is an integrated print and cut solvent machine and is available in two widths 54” and 64” and is equipped with a take up system as standard for high production workflow. The VG Series has four print heads which fire precision droplets in three sizes for high quality prints. Contour cutting is possible with the new integrated carriage, holder and blade. This offers increased force and accuracy for a wider range of media. Perforated cut is also possible very easily using the Roland Swatch panel.

    Versaworks Dual RIP software

Roland Versaworks Dual RIP software is included and is a simple to use but powerful RIP software. From installation, we had the VG printing samples almost immediately. The Versaworks software interface guides you through the available print and cut options and helps create an easy production workflow.

    Roland DG Mobile Panel

The Roland DG mobile panel allows the user to have a full remote control panel using a smartphone or tablet using Bluetooth. You can receive status updates as well as remotely manage production, test printing, and cleaning functions. This is a really handy feature to have and definitely worth taking advantage of.

    TrueVis VG Series control panel

    TrueVIS Eco-solvent Ink

The VG can be installed with a number of ink configurations; Dual CMYK, 7 colour CMYK plus Light Magenta, Light Cyan and Light Black or 8 colour, as previous but with the addition of White ink. Ink is supplied in 500cc pouches that conveniently slot into reusable holders therefore minimising waste. The Roland DG Mobile Panel mentioned previously can be used to monitor ink levels too.

TrueVIS Ink is a major step forward in eco-solvent technology and offer a wider colour gamut, richer solids and better gradations all while meeting strict environmental standards. The ink is Greenguard Gold certified, the highest standard available for indoor air quality.
We chose to have our machine supplied with white for use in window graphics and signage. We have printed a range of sample artworks across a range of media and the colours have been bright and vibrant across a variety of profiles and settings. There are profiles in Versaworks set up to help get you started including those for clear vinyls as well as other signage materials.

Roland TrueVIS VG Series at YPS

The Roland TrueVIS VG-640 creates vibrant and dynamic prints using RIP software that is both easy and enjoyable to use. We were impressed with how easy it was to get printing with Roland Versaworks with little experience of the software.
For more information or to arrange print samples, please call the team on 0191 256 6889 or get in touch via our contact page.

    YPS Review: Roland Open Day

Wednesday 8th November saw Your Print Specialists host their first Roland Open Day. Customers were invited along to our offices to see a range of Roland printers in action and speak to the team about the applications and capabilities of each machine. Also in attendance were Ronee and Joe from Roland DG who brought along their knowledge and expertise.

The Roland TrueVIS VG-640, VersaUV LEF-300 and VersaSTUDIO BN-20 were available to demonstrate. The TrueVIS VG-640 was used to produce wallpaper, vinyl for car wraps as well as poster prints.

    Roland Print and Cut…

The Roland BN-20 is a great entry level piece of kit with the ability to open up a whole range of new business opportunities. This desktop printer can print up to 480mm wide and also has a cut function for labels and stickers. During our Roland Open Day the BN-20 printed posters alongside print and cut t-shirt transfers using our own heat transfer media Rainbow Light.

For those looking for more than a desktop print and cut, we also had the Roland TrueVIS VG-3640 on a display printing a mix of both posters and decals. Our new decals for the delivery van were printed on the Roland and applied on the day. We also printed and installed our bespoke YPS demo room wallpaper on this machine.Roland Open Day at Your Print Specialists

    Roland Direct to Object printing…

Direct to object printing with the Roland LEF-300 LED UV printer is impressive to watch. The LEF-300 can print on to a huge variety of substrates up to 100mm in height.  Joe kindly oversaw the running of this machine and was printing everything from phone cases to bottle openers, acrylic panels and even house bricks!

Thanks to everyone who attended our Roland Open Day! We can’t wait to see you at our next event!
