YPS at Sign&DigitalUK 2018 Review

Let’s all go to Sign&DigitalUK…

Your Print Specialists at Sign&DigitalUK 2018

The last week in April saw the printing industry descend on the NEC Birmingham for Sign&DigitalUK 2018, the industry’s premier show focusing on print, sign and display.

This was YPS’ fifth year exhibiting and was our most exciting stand yet. Previously just a Mimaki specialist, we have expanded our hardware and finishing equipment offering to include HP Latex, Roland DG and Flexa. We couldn’t wait to show visitors what applications are possible using machines from these brands.

HP Latex a go-go!

The YPS team were very excited to showcase the HP Latex 560 printer. Using water based latex ink, printing directly to fabrics is possible and can be printed on the same machine as traditional sign and display medias. If you visited our stand you will have seen our interior set up including lampshades, fabrics, canvas frames, blinds and cushions. Our personalised chair got lots of attention too and again was printed using our HP Latex 560. Visitors to the stand were invited to see the HP Latex printing direct to fabric and take away sample prints.

Keep Roland, Roland, Roland…

Also making it’s debut on the YPS stand at Sign&DigitalUK was Roland DG. Showcasing ‘The Future of Print and Cut’ with the Roland TrueVIS VG-540, an eco-solvent integrated print and cut machine. We produced window decals using the white ink installed as well as colour popping poster prints showcasing the wide colour gamut of the Roland TrueVIS inks.

MmmmMimaki…

The Mimaki UCJV300-160 LED UV roll to roll is a gamechanger. With the ability to produce 4 layer prints for amazing backlits and 5 layer for window coverings alongside traditional print items. Prints are instantly cured, even when printing at high speeds and with the new LUS-170 inks, vibrant colour is still guaranteed. For those looking to switch over from screen to digital the Mimaki UCJV300 series makes the printing of switch membranes easy with the addition of white ink.

Flexa

Another brand making it’s Sign&DigitalUK debut on the YPS stand was Flexa SRL, an Italian finishing equipment supplier and one of the latest brands added to the YPS roster. The Flexa Miura II Plus XY cutter is an impressive piece of equipment for trimming and sheeting both blank and printed media. Using registration marks and an optical eye, the Miura can cut a 50m roll both vertically and horizontally in a matter of minutes. The trimmed pop art style poster prints proved being sheet cut proved very popular with show visitors.

Team YPS had a great time at Sign&DigitalUK 2018. Thanks to all who popped on the stand to see us and made it a great week!

Mimaki announces LA series heat-assisted laminators and film for laminating UV-curable inks

Mimaki has announced the new LA Series of wide format, heat-assisted laminators and laminating film to complement the new Mimaki UCJV Series LED UV printer/cutters.

Mimaki Laminator range now available at Your Print Specialists

“Mimaki continues to bring innovative solutions to market that make it faster, easier and more cost-effective for sign & display graphics and other businesses to produce outstanding full-colour sign and display graphics,” said Ronald Van den Broek of Mimaki Europe. “This laminating solution is another example of that innovation, and when paired with Mimaki’s new UCJV series of print-and-cut solutions, provides a turnkey offering that will help companies drive more profit to their bottom lines.”

Key features

Heat-assist provides superior finishing: LA Series laminators are heat-assisted devices with a maximum temperature of 60˚C. This heat assistance improves overlaminate film adhesion, particularly to surfaces printed with UV-curable inks, and reduces the potential for the silvering effect created by pressure sensitive overlaminates. Due to instant curing, UV inks tend to have a slightly uneven surface which can trap air bubbles during the laminating process, causing silvery specs that can take away from the appearance of the product.

Fast throughput speeds: Laminating speeds of up to 7.5m per minute means that the finishing can keep up with production and reduce bottlenecks.

Simple and reliable operation: The easy-to-use laminator includes all functions on one operation panel, with easy access to the pressure handle and foot pedal. Additionally, a take-up reel makes it simple for one person to control the entire process.

Mimaki Vision Laminate: Designed specifically for use with UV-curable inks and LA Series laminators, Mimaki Vision Laminate 310 (Gloss) film offers fine finishing with a glossy feel while maintaining the colour brightness of the print. This high quality, heat assisted overlaminate is also a cost-effective alternative to cold laminating films.

Complete system from Mimaki

“LA Series laminators with Mimaki Vision Laminate film will be the ideal companions to a UCJV Series LED UV printer/cutter,” explains John de la Roche of Mimaki’s UK & Ireland distributor, Hybrid Services. “UCJV prints are instantly dry meaning they can immediately be finished on a LA Series laminator. This complete, harmonised solution ensures reliable performance and quality output for those times when a protective overlaminate is required.”

Availability

LA Series laminators and films are expected to be available towards the end of 2017. Two models will be available: the 158cm LA-160W model and the 170cm LA-170W model. Mimaki Vision Laminate 310 will also be available in two sizes: 310-137 (137cm) and 310-152 (152cm).

For more information on the Mimaki Laminator range, please contact the YPS team.

New Mimaki UCJV launches with enticing trade-in offer

Mimaki’s UK and Irish distributor, Hybrid Services has announced that the recently released Mimaki UCJV Series LED UV printer/cutter range is to benefit from a special launch trade-in offer of up to £4,000.

Mimaki UCJV trade in offer launch

“Take up of the new Mimaki UCJV300 and UCJV150 printer/cutters has been excellent,” says Hybrid’s National Sales Manager, John de la Roche. “This offer is designed to make it even easier for owners of existing printers across a range of ink types to enjoy the benefits of the LED UV technology.”

The trade-in is available for any 700mm or wider solvent, eco-solvent, latex or SUV printer, with £3,000 offered against the Mimaki UCJV150-160 and £4,000 against the range-topping UCJV300-160.
With ultra-low running costs, the ability to print to a broad range of materials, instant finishing, thanks to the unique properties of the machine’s LED UV ink and integrated cutting just a few of the features that set the new printer/cutter apart, de la Roche is unsurprised at the uptake. “We’ve already received a number of orders for the UCJV and we can see the potential it has to benefit so many different types of print customer,” he states.

“With its strong eco-credentials and innovative, creative capabilities, the UCJV is already proving attractive to not only sign makers and graphics producers, but the retail, education and public sectors as well.”

Priced from just £16,995, the Mimaki UCJV Series will ship during the autumn, with the launch trade-in offer available on orders placed before December 21st 2017. The UCJV300 features white ink and both machines deliver high quality prints to materials including vinyl, banner, paper, backlit, display fabrics, PET film and more. With GREENGUARD Gold ink certification and powerful, yet easy to use RIP and cutting software included as standard, the UCJV provides broad reaching capabilities for producing profitable and innovative graphics.

Mimaki announces new CF22-1225 Flatbed Cutting Plotter

Mimaki CF22-1225 Flatbed Cutting Plotter at Your Print Specialists

Mimaki has announced the launch of the Mimaki CF22-1225 flatbed cutting plotter. The new cutting solution handles materials as large as 1220 x 2440mm and is the ideal complement to the Mimaki JFX200-2513 for one demand production of seasonal POP displays or exhibit components.

These two machines make a complete print and cut workflow for creating custom packaging or prototypes with the addition of ArtiosCAD Designer Solution software. Together, these three components will set sign and display graphics professionals on the path to delivering more profitable short run, print and cut jobs.

“We have brought to bear our extensive knowledge of cutting solutions in the development of the new CF22-1225 cutting table,” says Ronald Van den Broek, General Manager Sales at Mimaki Europe. “Combined with the JFX200-2513 flatbed UV inkjet printer and ArtiosCAD, this offering is an ideal end-to-end solution for cutting and creasing coated cardboard, as well as reciprocating cutting of foam material used for packing.”

Van den Broek continues, “In addition, Mimaki UV LED inks can print on a variety of materials, including uncoated substrates, with vibrant full-colour results. Whether organisations are developing sophisticated short-run signs and display graphics, creating packaging mock-ups or samples, handling special requests for small lot furniture, or simply creating and producing designs on demand, this solution will not disappoint. It enables businesses to deliver high-value, high-margin premium services. At the same time, the solution can reduce the need to turn down projects or outsource work.”

The latest version of the widely used Mimaki RasterLink RIP software includes an ID Cut function to make printing and cutting easier and faster. In addition to registration marks, RasterLink6 plus software can include a barcode on the print. This barcode, read by the crop mark sensor on the CF22-1225, contains cutting and rotation information allowing the automation of the cutting process. This function is particularly useful when running nested print-cut jobs, as the cutter continuously reads the data for both single and combined jobs.

RasterLink6 plus software also includes the FineCut plug-in for Adobe Illustrator, allowing a convenient print preview to minimise errors prior to the print-and-cut operation. In addition, a wide variety of selectable cutting tools allows cutting of industrial materials such as acrylic, foam and rubber with a thickness of up to 55 mm.

“By implementing the complete print-and-cut workflow, companies will be able to process orders, from design through finishing, in a highly integrated manner,” comments John de la Roche of Mimaki’s UK & Ireland distributor, Hybrid Services. “Customers can be confident that their service provider can produce high quality, short-run and fully designed packaging or signs & display graphics.”

The Mimaki CF22-1225 is expected to be available at the end of 2017.

The Print Show: YPS Review

Lets all go to…The Print Show!

The second week in October saw the majority of the UK’s printing community flock to Telford for The Print Show, Print Monthly’s annual show focused on all things print.

Welcome to The Print Show

Telford International Centre was the destination for The Print Show this year, a change from the shows usual home of the NEC Birmingham.

YPS made the journey down from Newcastle to exhibit at the show with a focus on Mimaki hardware and their applications. Continuing our theme of Think It, Print It, Profit, we wanted to showcase the wide range of applications that can be achieved using Mimaki equipment and inspire visitors that visited the stand.YPS at The Print Show

The Long Drop…and more

To coincide with the theme, we utilised features that are available on the Mimaki UJF-3042 MkII LED UV flatbed to create ‘The Long Drop’ bar/brewery theme. The Long Drop is a nifty feature that allows printing on curved surfaces to a degree without the need for a rotary/kebab, which is perfect for small print runs and bespoke, personalised items. We created our own bar with pumps, produced sample beer pump clips, bottles, labels and promotional merchandise all branded with The Long Drop. We also utilised the varnish to create stunning spot uv finishes that are a powerful add on when selling print.

Print and Cut at The Print Show

The Mimaki CJV150-130 integrated print and cut with orange ink installed offered a rich vibrancy and allows for a 95% Pantone to process colour match from having this ink configuration installed. A wonderful benefit if making the move from litho to digital print. Labels for our Long Drop Blonde were printed then cut on the CJV150-130 easily. Alongside vibrant poster prints that showcased the ink configuration, the capabilities of the CJV series were evident.

Mimaki UCJV150-160…sold!

One of the highlights of The Print Show for YPS was being the first Mimaki reseller to sell the new UCJV150-160 LED UV roll to roll printer. George Dowd from Printmaster in Gateshead travelled down to the show to see the new printer in action on Hybrid Services, Mimaki’s UK distributors stand. YPS MD Garry signed the deal there and then with George after an impressive demonstration.

Jig Print with Mimaki UJF-3042 mkII

The Mimaki UJF-3042 Mk II is a feature packed machine. We’re going to be looking at the Jig Print feature in Rasterlink 6 which is handy when printing batches of the same product.

The Mimaki 3042 MKII printer is a bit of a favourite here at YPS HQ. The versatility to print on a whole range of items never gets old and I’m sure those that own a small flatbed printer can back me up on this!

If you regularly print batches of the same product then you most likely own a jig specially made for the job. But what if you take on work that requires a jig but you do not wish to commission a jig to be made? Or if you have purchased a jig without an accompanying template file? Of course, the artwork can be set up in Illustrator or another design program but why not take advantage of the Jig Print feature in Rasterlink 6?

Today we will be setting up a jig for PVC business cards.

How to get started with Jig Print

First things first, we need to open the artwork in Rasterlink 6 as normal. We need to select the quality and settings that we want to print our cards at.
Mimaki jig print rasterlink 6
Once this has been set, we can now select the Jig Print button, defined by the printer with a 6 piece block behind it. Rasterlink 6 comes with some jig templates preset. We need to create a new jig layout. We do this by typing in a name for the layout then clicking the green plus symbol.

We can then begin to edit the layout for the jig. The default sizes automatically put the table size as A3 but this can be adjusted if you’re using a jig that is larger than the print area.

Mimaki 3042 Mk Jig Print

We can now put in the size of the item we will be printing on. Our business card is 86mm x 55mm and we can fit 18 comfortably on to the print bed. Using ‘Intervals’ we can adjust the space between the cases to make the most of the print area. There are several adjustments that can be made as we work through the settings.

‘First Position’ allows us to alter the edge measurements of the jig layout. ‘Layout’ allows us to make adjustments to the alignment of the image. For the business cards, we will choose to have the artwork centrally aligned so when printed it is central on the card. The ‘Adjustment’ option allows changes to be made to the position of an individual position if needed.

Once the jig is set up, select ‘read only. We can now print a copy of the jig on to a piece of paper on the print bed. A print job is created in Rasterlink separately and if no changes are necessary, this can be used for any future print orders without setting up a new jig. Once the jig is printed on the paper, we can place our cards on the bed and proceed with printing our cards. Select the number of cards required using the copies option in the Jig layout and then rip and print as normal.

Mimaki Rasterlink 6 jig print feature

Multiple artwork pdf files can also be uploaded and arranged quickly using the jig as a preset.

So there you have it, the jig print feature is a neat little tool that once set up can make batch printing easier without the need to create layouts in illustrator

The Mimaki UJF-3042 MkII LED UV printer is available now. For more information, contact the team on 0191 256 6889.
