Digital Innovation: Flexa Install at Gate 7

Your Print Specialists customer Gate 7 have expanded their digital output with the recently created Mimaki Digital Suite. To complement this, finishing equipment from Italian manufacturer Flexa has just been installed. The Formula laminator and Miura II Plus XY cutter were installed by Your Print Specialists with Stefano from Flexa offering training and support.

Gate 7 produce high quality decals for the industrial automotive sector with Volvo, JCB and Caterpillar amongst their clients. Therefore finishing equipment that complemented the Mimaki Digital Suite was key. Gate 7 turned to YPS, their existing Mimaki supplier, to offer the solution. The Flexa range of equipment is a new addition to the Your Print Specialists rostra and we are excited to be able to offer this innovative range to Gate 7 and our customers. Manufactured in Italy, Flexa has various solutions available for digital finishing from laminators to roll cutters and banner welders.

Gate 7 are constantly evolving and looking at new processes and practices that can be implemented to improve their manufacturing workflow. The addition of Flexa finishing equipment will help to eliminate the bottleneck caused by the Mimaki expansion, taking current production times from a full day to under an hour.

The decals produced by Gate 7 are subject to heavy duty and harsh working environments so lamination is an important part of the finishing process. The Flexa Formula is a high volume laminator perfect for industrial application. Previously a manual process for Gate 7, the laminator will form an integral part of the workflow and increase production exponentially.

Following lamination, the roll is then cut in to sheets. Again, this was a manual process but is now taken care of by the Flexa Miura II Plus. The automatic xy cutter trims and cuts the roll in to sheets ready to go to the relevant department in production. Utilising registration cut marks, the Miura II Plus is equipped with an Edge Control system with optical sensor that reads the printed vertical line. This ensures maximum precision. The cutting blades can also be fine tuned allowing Gate 7 to maintain their high quality output throughout. Different size sheets can also be trimmed and output from the same roll due to the cutting mark reader.

As well as printed media, the Miura can also be used to sheet blank rolls of media into various sizes. This feature is particularly useful for Gate 7, who use sheets of coloured vinyls and reflective materials within their screen print production.

Your Print Specialists at Flexa
Our staff were invited by Flexa to take part in their first ever technical training sessions based at their factory in Colle Umberto in the Treviso province. Paul and Wayne from the Service team and Georgia and Lauren from Sales made the trip across. YPS were offered an in depth look at the range of hardware Flexa has to offer with the opportunity to learn, operate and experience the machinery.

Flexa Technical Training

YPS at Flexa Technical Training
Following an introduction to the company by owner Massimo, YPS began their training on the Easy Lite Lam & Sound Laminator. This was a great opportunity to get up close to an impressive piece of kit. A heat assisted laminator is an essential piece of kit for most printers and signmakers. The Easy Lite Lam & Sound offers many features to create the perfect lamination but it also has a host of benefits to aid the user as well as many safety features. Being easy to use yet industrial are elements that occur frequently within Flexa finishing equipment. Each machine is developed and made in the factory in Italy using parts manufactured locally where possible before being tested extensively. It is apparent with the quality and how user friendly each machine is, that Flexa care about their product and customer experience.

Day 2 saw us tackle the a range of Flexa cutting equipment. First up was the Flexa Extrim, a unique trimming machine with its cutting unit mounted on a linear recirculating ball bearing system. The circular blade cuts a range of materials and offers speed as well as accuracy with its ‘Accu View’ technology.
The Flexa Miura II Plus formed the basis of our afternoon training. The Miura II Plus is an XY cutter combining horizontal and vertical cutting for fast trimming of media. This machine has lots of intuitive measures to ensure an accurate cut including optical sensors for vertical alignment and an advanced cutting mark reader.

Pantone Colour of the Year 2018: PANTONE Ultra Violet

Ultra Violet Pantone Colour of the Year
Pantone Ultra Violet is the colour of the year 2018. Offering a mystical or spiritual quality, it is a galaxy away from 2017’s Colour of the Year, Greenery. Ultra Violet represents mindfulness and a refuge from today’s over stimulated world but it also offers hope, bringing together two shades, blue and red, that are diametrically opposed to create something new.

We are living in a time that requires inventiveness and imagination. It is this kind of creative inspiration that is indigenous to PANTONE 18-3838 Ultra Violet, a blue-based purple that takes our awareness and potential to a higher level. From exploring new technologies and the greater galaxy, to artistic expression and spiritual reflection, intuitive Ultra Violet lights the way to what is yet to come.”

Ultra Violet symbolises experimentation and non conformity. Cultural icons such as Prince, David Bowie and Jimi Hendrix are synonymous with this shade pushing personal expression and influencing others to make their own unique mark on the world. An inspiring, other worldly colour that points us towards the stars. We can expect to see Ultra Violet make an appearance in fashion, beauty and home decor as the colour to stand out with.

Purple reign

For the first time, Pantone will release limited-edition collections of Pantone Color of the Year 2018 Formula Guides and Fashion, Home + Interiors Color Guides as collector’s items for designers. This will allow designers to incorporate Ultra Violet into their workflow easily. Pantone have also partnered with Saatchi Art the leading art gallery to create a collection of prints using the Ultra Violet shade. Created by a series of international designers and artists, this collection will allow art lovers to experience Ultra Violet on a daily basis. We find the Pantone Colour of the Year to be an inspired choice for 2018 and can’t wait to see what people achieve with this colour.
