Mimaki Flatbed Partners: UJF-3042 MkII and CFL-605RT

Mimaki UJF-3042 MkII UV printer and CFL-605RT plotter: A match made in flatbed heaven.

If you visited our stand at Sign and Digital UK this year, you will have seen Your Print Specialists demonstrate the latest flatbed printer from Mimaki in the form of the UJF-3042 MkII and the flatbed plotter model CFL-605RT. You may have even taken away one of our print and cut sample boxes filled with sweets! The flatbed print and cut options from Mimaki make the perfect partnership when it comes to prototype packaging.

Mimaki Flatbed Print and Cut

Mimaki UJF-3042 MkII LED UV Flatbed Printer

This printer is an update to the popular UJF-3042 range and replaces the existing HG model. The A3 bed size can allow objects up to 153mm depth to be printed. Using Adobe Illustrator we created artwork for the treat box, based on a traditional popcorn box and branded in the YPS colour scheme. Finecut software, which is supplied with the flatbed cutter, allows us to place registration marks on to the design. The design was printed onto 250gsm white card using the MkII and RIP software Rasterlink 6.

Mimaki CFL-605RT Flatbed Cutting Plotter

The entry level flatbed cutting plotter from Mimaki features a 610 x 510 mm cutting area and several tools for a range of cutting options. For our treat box, we used the creasing roller and eccentric cutter. There are also tangential and reciprocating cutter options for thicker boards and soft foam materials respectively. Using the Finecut plugin for illustrator, we can set the flatbed cutter to crease and then cut the card. Presets can be set up for those jobs that require the same material, which is great if you produce a lot of prototype packaging work. Our cut and crease lines are distinguishable by colour which allows for easy assignment when using Finecut. For our treat box sample, we used cyan for the crease tool and magenta to cut. The vacuum bed keeps in the card in place whilst the crease roller and cutter do their work. The result is a perfect net ready to construct and hold lots of treats.

Your Print Specialists: Rebranded Identity

New Identity, Same Your Print Specialists

If you saw Your Print Specialists at Sign and Digital UK in March or follow us on Twitter or Facebook, you will see that we have a shiny new logo and a brand new identity for the company. We’re still the same company offering the same fantastic hardware, service and support that you’ve come to expect from YPS, we’ve just had a makeover!

YPS brand identity mood boards

A change is as good as a rest…

YPS met with Wayne Hilton of Hilton Media, a Northumberland based design consultancy to discuss how we can update our identity. Wayne spoke with us at length about what we wanted to achieve with creating a new YPS logo and brand. Digital print is a big part of YPS but did we know we also supply finishing equipment and litho/screen consumables? Hilton Media worked to bring these elements into the logo and created bespoke lettering that reinforces what YPS does.

We also wanted to convey the scope of what can be achieved if you invest in digital print hardware from YPS. We can help and advise on what will work best for your print idea or business and work with you to achieve the result required. The idea of Think It, Print It, Profit was born!

Ready to show the world…

Sign and Digital UK seemed the perfect opportunity to present our re-brand to the print community. Using the new YPS colour scheme, a bold design was created that supported the theme of our stand; Think It, Print It, Profit. As well as the slogan, illustrations of a light bulb, printer and cash register were used to reinforce this idea.

The focus on application continued throughout the stand using the colour scheme to create an ‘experience room.’ This area was dedicated to textile print with a bespoke sofa being the focal point.

YPS Textile with new identity

Printed samples showcasing the capabilities of the print hardware on display also featured the colour scheme and illustrations and helped to create a cohesive look.

Samples showcasing new YPS identity

The feedback following Sign and Digital UK was extremely positive and we’re excited to move forward as a company with this exciting new identity.
