Mimaki CJV150 at YPS

The start of June brought YPS cold weather (hello summer!) but also a rather exciting delivery in the form of our new Mimaki CJV150-130 solvent printer for our demo room.

As the YPS newbie, it was great to be able to see this integrated printer/cutter up close and see what it can offer the print professional.

CJV150 Specifications

The CJV150 is available in 4 different printing widths: 800mm, 1090mm, 1361mm and 1610mm. This allows for the flexibility of print applications. The CJV150-75 for example with its 800mm printing width is great for stickers and labels. The CJV150-160 has the widest print width and is capable of producing large, high quality signage. YPS went for the 1361mm with an 8 colour ink set featuring orange and light black ink. Our machine will predominantly be used for demonstration purposes and producing sample prints so having the orange and light black will allow for a more accurate colour representation.

CJV150 First Thoughts

The new printer/cutter has only been installed for several days but has already seen a wide range of prints pass through its rollers. From vinyl decals for drones to banners and high gloss poster prints, the CJV150 along with Rasterlink 6 has been a joy to use.

Having worked with the Mimaki UJF3042-fx and JV400, the clear control panel is a welcome update. It was easy to navigate, with the ‘smiley face’ buttons a friendly but useful touch. The blue light means all is well or data is incoming from the RIP with the red light meaning that there is an issue. Despite the new appearance it didn’t take long to get familiar with the different functions. The RIP software Rasterlink also gets an upgrade to 6 and although a slightly different layout to version 5 may be daunting, it was still its usual user-friendly self.

The high Mimaki spec makes the CJV150 a very desirable printer. Any clogged nozzles are automatically detected and cleaned through Mimaki’s NCU feature. The NRS or Nozzle Recovery System allows for continued printing until an engineer arrives, should there be any defective nozzles; which is very helpful for print productivity!

If you decide to go for a 4 colour set up, you can take advantage of UISS or Uninterrupted Ink Supply System. Using two cartridges per colour, when one runs out the system automatically switches to the second cartridge of the same colour. Therefore allowing for long unattended print runs – very clever!

Having only been at YPS for 2 months, it was easy to make the jump from using the Mimaki JV400 and Rasterlink 5 to this new printer/cutter combo with Rasterlink 6. For those with a history of working with Mimaki technology, there should be no difficulty at all.

The CJV150 series is a range of affordable integrated printer/cutters that provide high quality as well as versatility of ink.
